Peace Well scored painting by Karla VanVliet
The Peace Well Project -
Come to the well and be renewed… Taking the form of the well, that collective archetypal vessel for community and renewal: the outer yang chalice, made of stone, comprises the well of hope, The inner yin void of the light well, is filled not with water, but with moving color prisms. Each person who looks through the window will see a different dynamic refraction of active light. Created as a window into the possible future of humanity, these individual wells, constructed on location and aligned to the prevailing earth lines, are made as a place to connect to our collective potential, to remember the good we are capable of, our highest evolution - as Homo Noeticus - what this world might look like if we find inner harmony and create lasting peace on earth. |

Embrace A next step tool in the creation of personal and global peace, this performance art interactive evolved from the powerful grief statement of the Women in Black movement. How do we move beyond grief and wounding to transmute our pain back into light? The simple human need and ability to be held and to hold another is the key. Created to be learned quickly and easily and to be used freely for personal and collective transformation, simple instructions for mindful cradling and nurturing of each other are provided. When two or more are gathered, an embrace can happen. Currently working on a documentary film which will serve as a quick instruction guide as well as document the history and unfoldment of the project. Celestial Verses A circular poem is embedded into two open books with abstract depictions of the heavens. Suspended from the ceiling and twisting down into the room and out a window to the ground below are strips of fabric that are tied, folded and stitched together holding the multiple translations of the verse. When entering the room, one hears a rumble of a wall of sound rising up from the floor to give the participant the experience of what it might sound like to be listening from the heavens. As the celestial verses lift up in a wave of multiple languages, individual words and breath are able to be discerned. 8 We are made of light and water… This installation combines a live – real time flowing example of that moment of light refraction and a series of film studies on the character of light and how we interact with it. Exploring this infinite relationship that goes beyond the physical - multiple wave form phase alignment; how we are made to always look to the light. The Secret Language of Mt. Philo Made up of images that highlight naturally occurring rock glyphs found on Mt. Philo, The Secret Language of Mt. Philo is a conceptual installation whereby a new language is introduced, decoded and made relevant through the medium of art and, specifically, utilizing technology and new mixed media to bridge this ancient language with our modern mind. Flash Word Speak Impromptu flash poetry performance events where global poets meet and spontaneously blend their words into a living hybrid of a new, multi-lingual poem. Amy’s Way This installation is a collaborative work with artist Yinglei Zhang. How far a life can travel and permeate into a community. How deeply the resonance of one human being can affect each person, known and unknown. This is the story of one woman’s life. Into the ether – a voice tells the shared story of Amy’s life in a foreign tongue. New mixed media images taken from the house she built tell the parallel story. A new language is written in gold and silver across each image to create both connection and privacy, to honor the shared experience she gave to her community, and to provide an everlasting link to Amy’s way. Prayer Voices lift up to the heavens in a wall of sound. In different tongues but a shared key and resonance all the world’s calls to prayer blend in harmony. This is a sound and vision installation, created to generate the kinetic experience of shared resonance and cellular memory of our common human desire to connect to the divine. The Four Seasons of Renga Representing the never ending cycles of season and place, a series of four seasonal interactive rengas were created, each in a different location and environment, with different participants. This art and poetry community project begins each season with the invitation and seed poem sent to the participating community - Starting in Summer and completing into the open doorway of a new spring, the circle rolls on: Summerland, an Island Renga - Summer Autumn Wood, A Forest Renga - Fall Nightfall, an Urban Renga - Winter Traveling Souls, A Water Renga - Spring |
